The story takes place in San José de los Altares during the 1930s. Leonor, a widow, has a dwarf daughter, something that she tried to ignore for years by trying to make her lead a "normal" life. But truth is implacable and the appearance of a friendly Italian foreigner that falls in love with the girl, leads to her freedom.
